PeaCoats - The Classic Coat

Having its roots firmly attached in history, not only is the classic pea coat reminiscent of military sailors, but it has also been traditionally known as the 'Jackie O jacket'.

All manner of individuals wear the pea coats, form children and teenagers, to men and women of all ages and styles; the pea coat really is a coat for all!

Due to the pea coat being such a classic, many highstreet and designer retailers have imitated the look but added their own special touches and designs to it. For example, Burberry have appeared to take the classic cut of the pea coat and encompassed it with a wet look leather jacket for a modern take on this traditional classic. Similarly Juicy Couture has a short, navy cotton jacket out this season that looks similar to the classic pea coat, but with an added fur trim around the collar as well as gold buttons. And so you see, the pea coat really is a classic favourite!

Saying this, here at Pea Coats UK we still favour the old classics; no added touches, no imitations, just the classically cut, traditionally navy pea coat. The standard for those pea coats that were originally worn by sailors was thirty ounces wool, usually made of heavy Melton Cloth and came in the colours navy or black, with navy being the most popular.
The classic term 'pea coat' originates from the Dutch word 'pijjekker', with Pijj referring to the type of cloth used, a coarse kind of twilled blue cloth complete with a nap on one side.

So there you have it, every one of all ages and styles; loves the classically traditional pea coat. Many designers have imitated it yet we believe that the standard, traditional design is by far; still the best. But don't just take our word for it, buy yourself a coat that will last you a lifetime as well as ensuring you are on trend every season, buy a pea coat!
